Hello there, HUMAN!
We are proud to say this is our second post. Even though we originally aimed to post every Thursday, we have learned to be kind to ourselves. We try to remind ourselves that productivity does not define us. We believe in flowing through your work rather than forcing it. Our bodies were demanding rest, and that’s exactly what we provided.
Now that we have rested let’s get into it.

“You don’t look suicidal”
September is National Suicide Prevention Month, and being a blog about mental health, we knew we needed to show up. However, we will admit there was hesitation in opening up on a topic as sensitive as suicide. Mostly because we are triggered by it.
Why? Because we have had suicidal thoughts/self-harm and people weren’t understanding.
Not only weren’t they understanding, but they stated “You don’t look suicidal?!”
Below is a list of phrases we have heard in response to us speaking up on dark/suicidal thoughts:
- “You’ll be alright; it’s really not that serious.”
- “You can’t just want to die over something like that.”
- “You won’t actually act on it.”
- “How can you be so ungrateful?”
- “You look fine!”
These statements are the reason why so many people are shocked when they find someone close by committed suicide. Because studies show that people typically reach out in some form, and depending on how they are held -depends on their probability of acting on it.
Our intention is to raise awareness because suicide doesn’t just affect the person experiencing these thoughts/emotions – it also affects the people around them.
Suicide: Warning Signs
Suicide can look differently depending on the individual. Below is a list of some warning signs due to suicidal thoughts:
- Talking about Suicide
- Tools (weapons, medication, hardware, etc.)
- Sudden changes in personality
- Negative Self Talk
- Zero Self Care
- Disconnection from everything
- Seeking Chaos/Drama
If you notice any of these signs, take the first step and check in. Checking in is so important, and we should do regular check-ins not only with ourselves but with those we love. Life has many moving parts, and it’s easy to get distracted, but taking an extra moment to check in with a close one may save their life.
Stay tuned for next week’s post (in the draft phase >.<) for Part Two out of Four of our Suicide Prevention Month Edition. Stay weird and Share with a friend to expand our reach.
Leave a comment with suggestions on areas you want us to touch base on. We appreciate any feedback. <3
